How does it work ?:
1: Fill grid with chords:
You can enter chords in different ways:
- You can enter chord with your keyboard, as you do it in Band-in-a-Box. The shortcuts that you have created in Biab are usable.
- You can import chords from an existing Biab file. (slash chords are ignored).
- You can use the chords builder:
- Last, you can use the automatic generator:
1: Select the scale and the mode that generate the chords. You can edit scales and modes the same way as with BiabScales.
2: Click on the degrees to build a progression with chords generated by the scale.
3: Choose the way the progression will be repeated. (no repeat, repeat x times, or repeat following circle of fifths, fourths, or custom circle).
4: Check the tonic of the scale.
5: Select the number of chords to insert in one mesure.
6: Choose the number of notes contained in the chords. (Biab does not known all chords. In this case, chords with fewer notes will be choosen).
Click on "Insert chords" to insert the progression at the current mesure.
2: Create an instrument :
The generated arpeggios will be adapted to the tone and the range of your instrument.
Click on "edit instruments"
Select the lower range of your instrument (in C). If you want to practice arpeggios at octavio, you can create an instrument that will start an octavo higher.
Enter the transposition that you use in Biab ("Notate" window (Ctrl + W), then "Opt." button, then "Transposition Options").
3: Parameter development rules :
You can choose the notes that compose your arpeggio
Click on "edit schema"
The numbers are the numbers of the generated notes. To play the root, then the third, then the fifth, enter 1 2 3.
To play at octavio, enter the note number followed by "o".
If you enter a number that is higher of the number of notes of the chord, a rest will be used.
4: Parameter patterns :
To choose the pattern to apply, click on "Pattern"
Double-click on notes or drag them to drop them on the purple area.
To remove a note, double-click on it or drag it to the trash.
Using the software :
Choose in the combo-boxes the parameters you want then click on "Generate".
Choose the schema and pattern. Depending of them, you can have results that do not fit to mesures. Try different couples.
The tone will influence the way Biab displays chords (sharp instead flat or conversely).
